Job Description:

Innovation is one of the leading capabilities at Shell.  A new group was launched to support a renewed emphasis on creating value and competitive advantage through technology innovations. The CP Technology and Innovation (T&I) team was established to play an integral role in the commercialization of technology.  Within this group resides a new technology Commercialization Center of Excellence (CCoE) to guide a delivery process from ideation to commercialization.  The key deliverables for the CCoE include:
 
  • Develop operating systems and processes to support innovation and technology commercialization. Establish best practice methodogies and guidelines.
  • Create the toolsets for the technology commercialization staff and delivery leads, and assist the Learning & Development organization with delivering the required training. 
  • Partner with the Innovation Vehicles within Shell to support their strategic plans (e.g., Shell TechWorks, Shell TechVentures, and GameChanger/ResearchConnect).
  • Turbocharge high value, risky, or complex commercial deals.
  • Foster better external networking and improve Shells overall engagement with both traditional and non-traditional suppliers to ensure Shell is positioned as a customer of choice for new or disruptive technologies.
 
What is the role?
We are looking for someone who is highly collaborative, excited by change, and ready to rise to the challenges within a new group. The ideal candidate possesses a mixture of skills related to new product commercialization in B2B markets, product management, supply chain management, business development, and demonstrated experience in licensing. 
 
The principle accountabilities include:
 
  • Provide detailed market, technology, and value chain analysis of targeted opportunity spaces. Identify unmet needs and develop commercialization plans aligned with business objectives.  Support the delivery leads with opportunity framing, analysis, and strategy development on as-needed basis.
 
  • Assist with development of innovation processes and tools for deployment across functional groups.  Act as Product Owner for the development and launch of new tools.  Coordinate with the internal Learning & Development organization for training and education.
 
  • Lead any Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) activity with a specific focus on identifying beneficial off-the-shelf Technologies and Continuous Innovation opportunities.  Develop relationships with external parties as a key member of the Supplier Innovation Excellence effort.  Position Shell as a world-class technology co-development partner for external partners in Oil & Gas and renewable energy
 
  • Engage with the Intellectual Property & Commercial Licensing teams to seek to make full use of Shells IP by leveraging relationships in the supply chain and customer base.  Incorporate best practices in driving effective strategies with the CP T&I Delivery team and assist as deal lead when needed.
 
  • Validate and structure collaboration opportunities (e.g. joint development agreements, licensing, demonstration projects, investments, JVs) that accelerate the deployment of technologies in Shell operations
 
 

Job Requirements:

  • Strong customer relationship and stakeholder management skills.  Ability to collaborate effectively with different functional groups and businesses.
 
  • Ability to lead a virtual, cross-functional team for short-term delivery.
 
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, coupled with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
 
  • Experience with context research methods, and qualitative and quantitative analysis of customer needs and industry trends.
 
  • Strong verbal and written presentation skills with ability to engage and communicate effectively with a broad set of stakeholders.
 
  • Familiarity with technology development, innovation practices, and Agile methodology.
 
Preferred experience in one or more of the following: IP & Licensing Technology Management, Deal Making & Delivery, Technology Collaboration & Commercialization, Business Development, Strategy & Planning, and Supply Chain Management.
