Process Engineer in Al Zour Refinery, Kuwait

Job description

Plans, supervises and directs the operation of the units and systems in his assigned section of Refinery operations.

Participates in planning and scheduling of operations and shutdowns for his units and coordinates all maintenance and inspection work for the respective units. Coordinates training and follows up programs and progress.

MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION:

Shall be a four-year full time degree in Bachelor of Chemical Engineering or Bachelor of Environmental Engineering. (mandatory to provide copy)

EXPERIENCE

Shall have a minimum of six years working experience in the Technical Services – Process related to Oil Fields / Oil Refineries / Petrochemical / Sludge Incineration. He must be able to speak, read and write English very well.

Engineers with the following additional qualifications/certifications will be preferred:

- Certified Auditors for ISO 9001/ OHSAS 18001 / ISO 14001 (mandatory to provide copy)

- Certified training on QRA/HAZOP-HAZAN Studies. (mandatory to provide copy)

BASIC RESPONSIBILITY

  • Makes materials / energy balances and follows up for catalyst activity. Advises changes in mode of operation or revamp of existing units to improve yield / quality of products. Evaluates economics of such changes or revamps and follows up their implementation and operation. Performs trouble shooting and devises means of solving operating problems.
  • Conducts test runs to determine process or equipment limitations as assigned. Analyses results and suggests modifications to increase throughput or improve performance.
  • Participates in chemical / media loading, regeneration and dumping and provides process assistance in startup, shutdown and turnaround activities.
  • Performs process design calculations and sizes equipment for new projects and modifications to the existing facilities. Uses computer as necessary for such work. Records all information and calculations involved in these studies for easy access / reference.
  • Conducts technical studies on assigned process work, including technical and economic feasibility of alternate processes. Reports results of these studies for further action by supervisor.
  • Monitors and reports on pollution control activities as assigned. Studies and recommends ways of reducing pollutant level in plant effluents. Participates in other environmental efforts.
  • Participates in energy conservation.
  • Keeps abreast of technical developments related to Waste Water Treatment Plant maintains up-to-date knowledge of capabilities of process units. Maintains update for KEPA regulations and suggest measures to meet the regulations. Further studies and evaluates all available process / plant design techniques. Recommends the most up-to-date technology to be applied within the refinery for 100 % compliance to KEPA regulations.
  • Works with IT / Process Control personnel in developing process control applications and process simulations. Assists in training other company employees assigned to the Division. Prepares technical reports as assigned.
  • Carries out technical evaluation for chemical/additive / supporting systems and process chemicals as directed.
  • Assists Contractor and Company in liaising with external agencies for studies and projects connected to process, which they undertake on behalf of refinery. Monitors progress, resolves problems and follows up these studies / projects. Responsible to align the outcome with target objectives of the study / project.
  • Responsible for setting the design basis parameters for modifications / project to reflect the actual operation. Enables smooth commissioning and operations
  • Assists Contractor and Company in planning and implementation with respect tocommunication, controls and documentation / records / reports, controls company /contractor / consultant work. Follows established division's procedures and plans.Identifies energy conservation opportunities for assigned units and prepares necessary MOC documents.
  • Remains available for consulting / on-call, after office hours.
  • Ensures timely preparation and analysis of regular reports as required.
  • Participates and contributes effectively in HAZOP review meetings.
  • Trains Kuwaiti UD Engineer assigned to the section as per their scheduled training model.
  • Participates and contributes to the performance improvement strategies of the department.
  • Undertakes special/non-routine assignments, studies and projects; assumes a lead role as and when assigned.
  • Assumes full responsibility for the role as envisaged by Health, Safety, Security and Environment Management System (HSSEMS).
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
