Principal Mechanical Engineer in Yuzhno, Russia

Wood is currently recruiting for a Principal Mechanical Engineer with experience in the oil and gas petrochemical industry.

This position will report directly to Lead Mechanical Engineer.

This is office based live-in position (not rotational method) with normal working hours.

Accountability

Accountable to the Lead Mechanical Engineer for the delivery of mechanical engineering work scopes.

To ensure that all project risks affecting start up requirements are identified, assessed and mitigated against and closed through achieving ALARP risk levels.

Independently applies advanced engineering techniques, makes decisions on engineering problems and methods, and represents the organization in conferences to resolve important questions or to negotiate with key engineers and officials of other organizations.

Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers and is consulted extensively by associates and others with a high degree of reliance placed on interpretations and advice.

Job role is responsible for a measurable asset such as an assigned staff and budget. Skills and qualifications typically acquired through a Mechanical Degree (or equivalent) and a minimum of 10+ years related experience.

At this level, individuals will have demonstrated creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving engineering problems efficiently and economically.

As a Principal must be able to lead, develop plans, control budgets, organizes, coordinates and controls the project and is responsible for employee performance appraisals and for coaching and developing lower level professionals.

To provide discipline Front End and Detailed Design input to Brownfield engineering projects, technical support studies as requested, engineering support to the construction / commissioning phases as necessary and providing engineering support to maintenance and operations as requested.

Basic Functions

Manage hands on the overall Engineering and Design activities within the Mechanical Department and day-to-day issues in a major, schedule driven, modification project, while attending to the technical and planning issues necessary for timely completion in accordance with overall integrated construction/commissioning schedule

Provide discipline expertise during trouble shooting in project commissioning phases.

Develop Cost (CTR) estimates.

Execute technical support studies as requested.

Provide engineering support to the construction and commissioning phases as necessary.

Provide engineering support to maintenance and operations as requested.

Principal Responsibilities

Act as deputy to the Lead Mechanical Engineer, during rotational periods and undertake Single Point responsibility for the integrity and quality of all work within the discipline, resource and staff management within the discipline and for all discipline design services to client ranging from conceptual, FEED, Detail Design, As-Built and Closeout.

Develop project risk registers defining key risks to start-up of the overall project and its constituent projects.

Responsible of the provision of Mechanical Engineering services in support of project scope of work delivery.

Ensuring that the work is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the current releases of any company/client or statutory design, codes, standards or procedures.

Preparation and Approval of Specification of Mechanical Equipment.

Preparation and Approval of Technical Bid Evaluations and clarifications of received bids.

Preparation and Approval of material requisitions.

Preparation and Approval of Mechanical Equipment Data Sheets.

Undertaking Site Surveys, as/if required.

Input to Scope of Work, Basis of Design and FEED Report.

Reviewing of vendors documents for compliance with company requirements.

Liaising with other disciplines to ensure that all Drilling Type Packages, Vendor Documentation comments are collated and returned to the Vendors in a neat manner.

Ensuring that other disciplines understand their requirements to inputs and outputs of the particular types of Packages as listed below:

Emergency Generator Packages.

Fire Water Pump Packages.

Instrument Air Packages.

Deck Crane Packages.

General Pumps as used on Topsides Process Systems.

Static Equipment.

Drilling equipment packages.

Organise, assign and control discipline staff, such that work is progressed efficiently without compromising on quality. Ensure effective communication and interface definition between all disciplines for design development, review and check processes.

Represent PSNS in co-ordination with client discipline engineers for monitoring and variance control of client standards. Ensure robust challenge of client standards as part of normal work practice.

Actively train and encourage the development of Russian and Junior Staff to fulfil discipline engineering roles.

Review and control any discipline design work carried out by third parties.

Provide detailed discipline engineering input during all design phases, including interpretation of standards.

Provide highest quality discipline input into conceptual design teams.

Lead discipline specific design reviews and participate in other discipline design reviews as appropriate.



Skills / Qualifications

Self-motivated individual, able to work in both small and large engineering team environments.

Able to provide innovative, fit for purpose, solutions whilst meeting basic client engineering requirements.

Experience in estimating project scopes from both a deliverables and time to complete point of view.

Ability to manage more than one project at a time.

Leadership and project management skills.

Read P & ID's and & identify Mechanical content.

Performs all conventional aspects of the functional area subject matter.

Devises new approaches to problems encountered.

Plans, schedules, and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Carries out assigned tasks in a timely manner and within the agreed hours.

Raises PCRs as required, in a timely manner etc.

Team worker; Self-Starter; Delivery focus; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; with the ability to work in teams and liaise with other discipline engineers in a multicultural environment.

Be willing to mentor Russian National personnel.

Liaise effectively between functions/disciplines.

Good command of English and English lessons are provided to improve.

Experience of using PV Elite.

Experience in the use of PDMS/E3D.

Experience in the use of AutoCAD.

Experience in Russian Standards is strongly preferred.

Experience in:

  • 10+ years experience in the Mechanical field.
  • Oil and Gas engineering required preferably Offshore Brownfield.
  • Conceptual, Front End and Detailed Design experience required.
  • Field experience in construction and commissioning strongly preferred.
  • Experience in an Engineering Design Company/ Russian Design Institute desirable.
  • Shell ERDs/DEP experience preferred.
  • Experience in onshore/offshore projects in cold/remote regions is advantageous.
  • Fully conversant with relevant international (ANSI, ASTM, API, BSI, IP, ISO etc,) standards.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as Principal Engineer.
  • Mechanical/Packaged Equipment experience essential.

Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
