Position Summary

 

This Lead Mechanical Engineer role researches, develops, designs and manages a variety of facilities, components, equipment and systems for the petrochemical industries. Has supervisory responsibility over the discipline engineers and designers or functions as a technical specialist formulating and developing advanced concepts, techniques and standards. Responsibilities include assuring effective utilization of engineering personnel and technical quality in all deliverables and with communications.

 

 
     
  • Perform job responsibilities as Senior Lead Engineer under the direction of the Project Engineering Manager and/or Project Manager
  •  
  •  

    This is a lead role position the applicant will be required to maintain man hour budgets, schedules, staffing, develop new talent, interact with project personnel and the client. 

  •  
  • Supervise and direct the mechanical engineering and piping design personnel assigned to the project team
  •  
  • Monitor all mechanical engineering activities to assure conformance with company work instructions, quality processes and other SOPs 
  •  
  • Ensure adherence to client and/or company specifications, governing codes and standards, and good engineering practice
  •  
  • Ensure adherence to client and/or company health, safety, security and environmental (HSSE) requirements as well as state and federal regulations
  •  
  • Define and provide input on the required discipline staffing and scheduling for the engineering and design effort for a proposed project
  •  
  • Coordinate and participate in the development of mechanical engineering effort-hour estimates for proposed projects
  •  
  • Monitor the disciplines effort-hour budget, staffing plan, and schedule to ensure that project objectives are met, project controls are monitored and execution is within the approved budget
  •  
  • Responsible for reporting on engineering, design and equipment status to the Project Manager and Department Manager, and performing monthly or bi-weekly assessments of progress
  •  
  • Participate and contribute advanced level development of all phases of project engineering, including FEED, detail design and construction support
  •  
  • Establish the mechanical and piping equipment requirements and maintain the technical content through regular updates
  •  
  • Ensure that the technical content of equipment specifications for inquiry/PO is appropriately reviewed, approved, and transmitted
  •  
  •  Initiate PDNs (Project Deviation Notices) that impact the mechanical specifications, effort-hour budget and/or schedule
  •  
  • Coordinate and cooperate with the Lead Engineers of other disciplines to ensure the smooth flow of all information, and to ensure alignment with project requirements and design basis
  •  
  • Communicate with the mechanical team to convey client news, assess and discuss project issues, coordinate/plan key milestone efforts, etc.
  •  
  • Responsible for obtaining cost related information and developing scope of work documents for project estimates (e.g. TIC estimates)
  •  
  • Establish/maintain proper interface with Client's representatives throughout the life of the project

     
  • Recognized Bachelors degree or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering 
  •  
  •  

    California PE: Preferred

  •  
  • 20 years of overall experience on refinery projects from feasibility through construction  
  •  
  • 10 years of applications engineering experience, and 5 years lead role or related experience with engineering design of oil and gas production (downstream) facilities, piping systems and safety systems (API 14C)
  •  
  • Eligible for a TWIC Card: Preferred  

  •  
  • Applicant should have a working knowledge of: ASME code, API standards, Fired Equipment, Requisitioning, Bid Tabulations and, Vendor Data Review
  •  
  • Familiarity with various project phases and the scope/deliverables required
  •  
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, OneNote) preferred
  •  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  •  
  • Registered Professional Engineering license required
  •  
  • Ability to train and travel to onshore or offshore facilities preferred
