Facilities Engineering Lead in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Wood is urgently looking for a Facilities Engineering Lead to strengthen our team in the UAE.

This position is for one year, renewable annually based on performance and business needs.

This is based in Dubai and will involve occasional visits to the Client offices and/or site in Iraq. 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Will be based in EPC contractor offices in Dubai and role will involve regular visits to other EPC offices throughout the UAE. Regular visits to site in Iraq will also be required.
  • Oversee Engineering work being carried out by EPC contractor for major brownfield and greenfield Projects
  • To participate in and/or lead all project safety and design reviews as necessary
  • To provide technical assistance, direction, and support during the construction and installation activities
  • Apply appropriate engineering principles, best practice and know-how in the provision of engineering services and professional advice
  • Identify technical problems, evaluate options and formulate solutions to achieve satisfactory conclusions trouble-shooting the design, identifying and resolving issues with engineering and/or fabricator by raising and resolution of Site/Technical Queries.
  • Review as required: engineering, methods, defects, maintenance faults, non-conformances and problem areas. Use evidence from the reviews to improve effectiveness, reliability, maintainability and economy, leading to continuous improvement
  • Assist construction personnel with general technical queries and details
  • Collaborates with construction management to eliminate any hazards associated with the work that may adversely affect the environment or the safety or health of employees
  • Provides resolution for technical engineering problems; coordinates application of solutions
  • To ensure that all work is completed without compromise to quality and is delivered according to the project schedule
  • Provide an engineering interface with operations, service providers, design authorities, project personnel and other stakeholders in the development and execution of engineering activities
  • To deliver the above, the role holder will input and/or manage the input of others across the whole equipment/plant/engineering lifecycle including design, installation, troubleshooting, technical investigation, commissioning and handover
  • The role holder is accountable for delivery in accordance with agreed plans and to the quality required
  • Major Challenges: There will be a requirement to provide Leadership / Management / Supervision / 
  • Oversight of engineering activities on a number of different assets at different times in. All will require a different technical and commercial evaluation


Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering 
  • Membership of a recognised professional institute preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years experience in the oil and gas industry
  • Minimum of 10 years proven capability in an engineering design company (with mechanical and piping background) •
  • Minimum of 5 year experience working as Facilities Engineer Piping & Mechanical • Demonstrated leadership experience and previous track record of successfully supervising teams •
  • Experience of working with multi-national and multi-cultural project teams is strongly preferred
  • Previous experience of working for Wood is preferred 
  • Previous experience of working in the Middle East (specially Projects in Iraq) would be an advantage.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of engineering design and project delivery 
  • Thorough awareness of relevant international codes and standards 
  • Experience with company business management system and quality assurance processes 
  • Experience of the application of HAZOP, HAZID and SIL Rating to Engineering Design
  • Hands-on experience in dealing with technical issues and providing solutions (with limited support from discipline engineers)
